Winter in Michigan...and Herbie

So, here it is, December 21, 2008 in Michigan. The weather is gorgeous. It's about 85 degrees, the sky is a beautiful blue, there is a slight breeze. The sun is shining, the kids are happy, my entire house is spotless, the yard work is done and hubby and I are enjoying a nice cocktail by the pool as the kids play nicely together.

WAKE UP, AJ!!!!

Ok, so that's not exactly the way it is here, right now, but it's close.

It's 5 degrees with a windchill of -13 degrees. It's been snowing since 8:30 last night, and this morning the winds have perked up to around 30-40mph. The drifting on the north/south roads is incredible. The kids have cabin fever, the house is not quite picked up, there is laundry to do, there is too much snow to shovel....but hubby and I are enjoying a nice snack of Chex Mix!! (cocktails are out of the question until I stop taking pain medication!)

That sounds a little more realistic.

Take a peek at what we woke up to this morning. And what better way to spend the day, when your 7, than to hang out in your new footie pj's, playing Star Wars on the wii - enjoying it all in your Santa hat. I think this kid's got if figured out!

And on this snowy Michigan weekend, our family adopted a new Christmas-time tradition. We adopted Herbie.
Herbie is a Elf on the Shelf. He came in a nice box, with a wonderful little book to go along with him. Isn't he cute??? His basic story is this:
Herbie (we got to name him) works for Santa Claus. When you open him up, his magic is unleashed, and you place him somewhere in your home. He keeps a close eye on all of the little ones in the home, taking notes on their....um.....behavior. He keeps track of if they are naughty or nice. Then at night, he uses his magic to head back to the North Pole, give his report to Good Ole' St. Nick, and returns again by morning - finding a new hiding place to keep his cute little elf eyes open!! His only rule is that you only touch him once, when you open him!! He will then head back to the North Pole on Christmas and return next Christmas-time to keep an eye on them again. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up over summer - you know, just to make sure the kids are being good!

Tomorrow is our Christmas Cookie Baking Extravaganza - I hope the weather doesn't keep my Sis-in-Law and nieces from being able to come over!!

Wow, that's some snow. And I'm sure my 3 boys would be bouncing off the walls if couped up like that. Hope you get to have your cookie fun.
